| Subject Background
In Sutton Park Art Department there is recognition of the benefits of an education in Art, Craft and Design for the student that extend far beyond a competence in the subject. An education in Art develops a number of important personal qualities, particularly those of initiative, perseverance, sensibility and self-reliance. There are a number of approaches and working methods used in the Art room. There is some excellent equipment like our new Kiln for Ceramics and our etching press for Print Making, these allow students to experience a range of different media to make 2D and 3D work.

| It is important for students to develop a personal response to a stimulus but in the beginning of a student’s art education there is an emphasis on drawing and the techniques associated with different materials so as that the student is equipped to use such media to the best of their ability as a means for personal expression.
The Junior Cert Art Project challenges each student to achieve the highest possible standards of excellence, this Project is ongoing over 7 months. The Leaving Cert is an Exam rather than a project. This entails some Art History where we study Art in a cultural and Historical context. This part of the exam accounts for 37.5% in the leaving Cert. | | | | To view some of our art projects click on the links below:- | | Artwork - Page 1 | | Artwork - Page 2 | | | | | | Department of Education Syllabus for Art & Design - (DOE Website - June09) | | DOE Syllabus - Junior Cert Curriculum Syllabus - Pdf Doc | | DOE Syllabus - Leaving Cert Curriculum Syllabus - Pdf Doc |
