In each Year Group, there are two classes. Maximum class size in the Junior Cycle (First to Third Year) is approx 20-24 students, although where there are subject choice options (e.g German or Home Economics), teaching class sizes are smaller. Additional students may join our Transition Year (Fourth Year) and the Senior Cycle (Fifth and Sixth Year); however, all teaching classes are split according to subject choices and levels, and therefore are all quite small in size.        The Atrium entrance to the Library, Computer Room, and Technical Graphics Suite and English & Maths classrooms. The Senior Programme Junior Cycle (First to Third Year) From First to Third Year, students follow the prescribed syllabus in each subject in preparation for the Irish National Junior Certificate Examinations, at which our students normally present in nine subjects. All the following are subjects taught in the Sutton Park School Junior Cycle programme: » English (normally taught at mixed ability level) » Irish (normally taught at Higher and Pass levels)(exemptions possible for non-nationals) » Mathematics (normally taught at Higher and Pass levels) » General Science » French » History » Geography » Physical Education (not an examination subject) » Civic, Social & Political Education (CSPE) » Social, Personal and Health Education(SPHE) » Option Block Choices that include:- German/Art/Home Economics/Business Studies/Technical Graphics/Music        Transition Year Programme (TYP) (Fourth Year) - see also our Transition Year page In Fourth Year, in addition to the normal academic subjects,Transition Year students are introduced to a number of enrichment options not normally available in the timetable. They are an integral part of the Transition Year, and all students are expected to participate fully in the courses offered. Some courses may involve an additional cost to parents. Transition Year students have the opportunity to try different Senior Cycle subjects, presented in modules, prior to making their choice of subjects to study for the Leaving Certificate. They take non-academic subjects and pursue enrichment projects.        Senior Cycle (Fifth and Sixth Year) Fifth and Sixth Year students follow the prescribed syllabus in each subject in preparation for the Irish Leaving Certificate Examinations, at which they must present and pass a minimum of six subjects. Graphics | Business In addition, the following subjects are available outside normal teaching hours (after school), subject to sufficient demand. » Applied Mathematics » Economics » Spanish This means that at Senior Cycle level, all students can choose EIGHT SUBJECTS within the normal school timetable, and ONE ADDITIONAL SUBJECT after school hours. The Secondary Syllabus The Irish Department of Education website provides complete syllabi in PDF format for all Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate subjects.        The Senior School Day Classes: The school day begins at 8.45 am each morning with Registration, and finishes at 3.45 pm. During a normal day, classes are 40 minutes long. On Wednesday, all classes up to break are 35 minutes long to provide time for an assembly. There is normally a morning break of 20 minutes, a lunch break of 50 minutes, and a 10 minute break between the end of classes and the commencement of Supervised Study (Prep). Prep: Prep (Supervised Study) begins daily at 3.50 pm and finishes at 4.50 pm. Prep is voluntary for all students. Supervised Evening Study: Running from 5.30 pm to 8.45 pm five nights a week, Evening Study is available as an optional extra.
